About the event

Democracy and the rule of law are under pressure. How can we safeguard them, and what role does academia play? Join us for an interdisciplinary conference at the University Aula in Bergen on 5 November.

Democracy and the rule of law have been fundamental to Norwegian society and to the qualities that have made Norway one of the best countries to live in, with relatively high levels of freedom and prosperity. Yet they cannot be taken for granted.

The challenges facing democracy and the rule of law today are substantial and clear to most people. Still, it is worth remembering that they have survived wars, crises and challenges before. We also know that their future depends on what we do today.

Fresh thinking, learning and collaboration are vital resources, and universities have a particularly important role to play. At this conference, we therefore ask: How can we shape a democracy founded on the rule of law for the future? What can we preserve, what do we need to rethink, and what must we do to succeed?

The conference is free and open to everyone.

The conference will be held in Norwegian.
