Forstad is a new folk/singer-songwriter project consisting of the duo Tiril Knapperholen Hognestad (Temporary, Catnip Cloud, Future Nostalgia) and Magnus Munkeby Forbord (LOOSER, Hill Bomb, Future Nostalgia). Both have extensive experience in the Norwegian music scene and have now started a folk project in Norwegian inspired by Adrianne Lenker, Cornelis Vreeswijk, Lillebjørn Nilsen, Alf Prøysen, and traditional Norwegian folk music. The lyrics also pay homage to the poet Hans Børli and philosophers such as Peter Wessel Zapffe. Zapffe's philosophical questions frame the entire project — why does humankind need a meaning in life?

In October 2026, they will release their debut album “For det første” on Punkt Records, a sister label of Koke Plate. The album is a reaction to an alienating, globalized, and technological society, delivered with an intimate and organic sound. Hognestad's poignant and at times raw lyrics explore themes that adults born in the 1990s can relate to: gray areas in sex life, modern dating, the loss of close friends, and the wish to become a cowboy. Together with Forbord's guitar arrangements, they create a soundscape and atmosphere that feels both innovative and familiar to the listener. Contributors on the album include Astrid Garmo (Pumpegris, Scoreboard) on hardanger fiddle, Øyvind Kløve Kjernlie (Klöve, Ole Kirkeng, etc.) on pedal steel, Magnus Munkeby Forbord on guitar and arrangements, Tiril Hognestad on composition, vocals, and guitar, and Synnøve Ovrid on production. Their first single will be released in August 2026, followed by the album in October of the same year.
